One Person Has Been Killed As Bandits Seize A Zamfara Monarch And Five Additional Individuals
In the early hours of Saturday, bandits carried out an abduction in Ruwan Rana, a district within the Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Among those taken were the district head, Magaji Makau, and five other individuals. Tragically, one person lost their life during the attack.
A local resident, Mohammed Musa, recounted that the bandits, who were on motorcycles, entered Ruwan Rana town around 3 a.m. They initiated the attack by firing shots indiscriminately and subsequently proceeded to various homes where they seized the district head and five other prominent community members. Regrettably, they also took the life of an individual who resisted abduction.
Musa stated, “We heard gunshots around 3 a.m., and everyone sought refuge, as we knew the bandits were there to abduct. They systematically moved from house to house, capturing five people, including our district head, and they fatally injured one person before retreating into the forest.”
The news of the abductions only became known to the community in the morning, with the realization that the district head, Alhaji Makau, was among those taken.
Hon Hamisu Faru, a member of the state House of Assembly representing the area, expressed his deep concern over the incident and offered assurances that efforts were underway to rescue the district head and the other abductees. He emphasized that security forces were actively involved in the rescue mission.
As of the time of this report, attempts to reach the state police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful.
