NSCDC Apprehends A 65-year-Old Man On Allegations Of Chaining And Depriving His Wife Of Food
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Yobe State has officially verified the apprehension of a 65-year-old man named Mohammed Baburam. He stands accused of subjecting his wife to a year-long ordeal of confinement and starvation in Potiskum.
DSC Bala Garba, the spokesperson for the Command, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Damaturu on Friday. Disturbing images of the 40-year-old woman, a mother of four, who was chained, had circulated widely in the state, sparking calls from residents and civil society groups for the immediate arrest of Baburam.
According to Garba, Baburam was taken into custody on Wednesday following information received from the Dabo-Aliyu Stadium area, where both the suspect and the victim resided. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused only provided one meal a day to his wife.
“The suspect also claimed that he had restrained his wife due to her mental health issues,” Garba explained.
The spokesperson further conveyed that the command had enlisted the expertise of forensic specialists and a medical doctor to evaluate the victim’s health status. Following the completion of the investigation, the suspect will face legal charges in court.
