Naval Forces Seize 127 Bags of Cannabis and Gas Drums in Lagos

The Nigerian Navy successfully intercepted 127 bags of cannabis sativa valued at N254 million and a substantial quantity of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in a fiber boat at Eleko Beach, Lekki, and in the vicinity of Liverpool, Apapa, Lagos State, respectively.
According to a press statement released on Sunday, the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, credited the success to intelligence gathered from the Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, Falcon Eye Alignment. The patrol team initially seized 113 bags of cannabis at the beach and later apprehended an additional 14 bags along the Badagry route. The criminals abandoned the narcotics and fled upon sighting the navy team.
Commodore Oguntuga also detailed the interception of petroleum products, revealing that the boat was loaded with suspected AGO stored in numerous drums and jerrycans. The criminals abandoned the scene, leaving behind the illicit cargoes, which were subsequently secured by the Quick Response Team. The confiscated jerry cans, drums of AGO, and a pumping machine were transported back to the navy’s base for further investigation. All seized items, including the cannabis and petroleum products, will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for thorough examination.
Commodore Oguntuga emphasized the Navy’s commitment, led by Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to combating illicit drug trafficking and safeguarding the nation’s resources.
