Bayero University Expels 26 Students, Rusticates 13 Others

The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has expelled 26 students for their alleged involvement in various examination misconduct.
Herald Reporters reports that this formed part of the major decisions adopted at the 405th Meeting of the Senate held on Monday, 19th June 2023.
The expulsion of the students was contained in the university bulletin released on Friday.
It read,’’ Upon submission from the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct and Leakages, the following 26 candidates were expelled for being involved in examinations misconduct in accordance with Category 20:17 (Ai, iii, iv, v, vi, vii x xii and xiii) General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR) and 3.4.2(Ai – xi) General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies (GRGPS) as the case may be.’’
‘’The breakdown of the expelled students indicates that School of Continuing Education had the largest number with six students followed by the Faculty of Engineering with five candidates. Faculty of Education had four candidates and Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences had three candidates while Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences had two candidates respectively, ‘’the statement said.
‘’Equally, Faculties of Agriculture, Allied Health Sciences, Arts and Islamic Studies, Communication, Social and Management Sciences had one candidate each.
The statement said in the same vein, one postgraduate student along with twelve other undergraduate candidates were rusticated for two or one semester accordingly, for being involved in examinations misconduct.
According to the statement the affected rusticated candidates are from the School of Postgraduate Studies, School of Continuing Education, Faculties of Education, Faculties of Arts and Islamic Studies, Communication, Computing, Engineering, and Management Sciences.
Also, thirteen other candidates were warned for being involved in examination misconduct.
The breakdown showed that two candidates are from the School of Postgraduate Studies, five from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, two from Engineering, and one each from the Faculties of Allied Health Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, School of Continuing Education, and Faculty of Science.
