Monarch in Police Net for ‘Attempting to Defile’ Crippled Orphan In Gombe State
Muhammed Yarima, 71, the district head of Lafiya in Dukku Emirate of Gombe State has been arrested by the police for allegedly trying to defile a crippled orphan by inserting his fingers into her private part.
The suspect was arrested after a tip-off by members of his community who became suspicious of his affairs with the victim, a 10-year-old girl.
The victim, WikkiTimes learnt, was entrusted under the care of the traditional ruler.
“This was the third time the traditional ruler was accused of raping under-aged children,” a source told WikkiTimes. “The girl was an orphan entrusted under his care in his household. He was taken to court when the first incident happened.”
Confirming the incident to WikkiTimes, spokesman for Gombe Police Command, Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar said the suspect is in police custody adding the command is investigating the matter.
“Yes I can confirm to you that he is in our custody and investigation is on to determine whether he has actually raped the girl,” he said. “From what the police are charging the suspect, is indecent behaviour by inserting his fingers on the victim’s private part.”
