JUST IN: Nigerians thrown into darkness as national grid collapses again

Nigerians were again thrown into darkness on Wednesday following yet another collapse of the national power grid.

The latest incident marks the 12th grid failure recorded in 2024, making it a historic low for the nation’s power system.

According to a tweet from the official handle of Nigeria’s National Grid, the collapse occurred at approximately 2:09 PM. This comes after a turbulent year for the power sector, which has witnessed 11 prior collapses from January to November, including three within one week in October, all of which caused widespread blackouts and public outcry.

The repeated failures of the national grid have sparked frustration among Nigerians, who are grappling with inconsistent power supply and its ripple effects on businesses and daily life.

“The major grid setback has occurred and the restoration is to commence,” the handler wrote.
