House of Representatives Vows to Enhance Development in Rural Areas
The House of Representatives has given its assurance to residents of rural areas in Nigeria, pledging to facilitate infrastructural development throughout the nation. Marcus Onobun, the Chairman of the House Committee on Rural Development, conveyed this commitment during the committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja.
Onobun emphasized the significance of the committee, highlighting its direct impact on the 360 members of the House who represent rural communities. He underscored the crucial role of the committee in delivering the dividends of democracy to the constituents who elected them.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by past committee chairmen, Onobun expressed his intent to approach the committee’s functions differently. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to achieve objectives and make a substantial impact on the lives of millions of Nigerians residing in rural areas.
Onobun, representing Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in Edo State, expressed his readiness to collaborate with committee members, welcoming their expertise to navigate diverse community landscapes, address developmental demands, tackle civil service challenges, allocate resources effectively, and ensure transparent legislative oversight.
Deputy Chairman Mohamud Audu echoed the call for cooperation among stakeholders to drive rural development in the country. Other committee members, speaking at the inaugural meeting, pledged their commitment to work collaboratively with the committee’s leadership to fulfill its mandate.
