The Federal Government has commenced the payment of salary increments for military personnel, including three months’ arrears.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, in a statement released in Abuja by Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence.
Dr. Matawalle announced that military personnel have already started receiving payment alerts. He stated, “President Bola Tinubu approved the release of funds for the payment of pensions and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel on Thursday.”
He commended the President for prioritizing the welfare of both serving and retired military personnel, adding that addressing pension arrears for retirees would remain a top priority. According to the minister, the initiative underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the living conditions of those who have served the nation.

Dr. Matawalle also appreciated the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for his dedication to ensuring the payments were actualized.
He called on the Nigerian military to remain resolute in their duties, assuring them of the President’s commitment to enhancing their morale and equipping them to combat insecurity. “Despite initial setbacks, rest assured that Mr. President will do everything within his power to strengthen our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” he said.
The minister expressed gratitude to the President for his decisive intervention and emphasized the critical role of both retired and active military personnel in ensuring national security and combating insurgency.
He reaffirmed the President’s unwavering commitment to eliminating insecurity in Nigeria, supported by the readiness and resilience of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
