Fasoranti Calls Ondo Elders Meeting Amid Akeredolu and Deputy’s Dispute
Afenifere Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Convenes Meeting with Ondo Elders to Address Governor-Deputy Feud
On Monday, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the national leader of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, gathered with other Ondo State elders to discuss solutions to the ongoing crisis between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The meeting, held at Fasoranti’s residence in Akure, expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged political turmoil in the state, highlighting its adverse impact on development.
After the meeting, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa, a former Secretary General of Afenifere, confirmed that the gathering was summoned by Fasoranti to address the crisis. Arogbofa emphasized that the discussions would be ongoing. He conveyed the elders’ consensus that, for the time being, there should be no impeachment proceedings against either the governor or the deputy.
Pa Simeon Oguntimehin, the Lisa of Ondo Kingdom, added that the elders declared that the issue of impeachment should be set aside for the time being. He emphasized the elders’ commitment to upholding the rule of law in the state.
Prof. Olu Aderounmu, a former Vice Chancellor of Wesley University, Ondo, who also attended the meeting, urged everyone to collaborate with the elders. He emphasized the elders’ role in the state’s history and called for adherence to the rule of law.
Elders present at the meeting included Chief Fasoranti, Bashorun Arogbofa, Pa Oguntimehin, Chief Korede Duyile, the Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Yayi Akorede, and Professor Aderounmu.
The feud between Governor Akeredolu and Deputy Governor Ayedatiwa intensified after the governor’s return from Germany in September. The State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Ayedatiwa, citing allegations of gross misconduct. The Assembly’s request for a panel to investigate the allegations was denied by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olusegun Odusola, following a court order.”
