Conflict Arises Between Rivers Judiciary and Local Government Chairman Regarding Inmate Release

The Rivers State Judiciary and Dr. Chidi Lloyd, Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State, are at odds over the alleged release of a criminal suspect from the Port Harcourt Maximum Corrections Centre.
The suspect, identified as Nwoburuoke Wosu, is reported to be involved in criminal activities in the Emohua axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State. Dr. Lloyd claimed that Wosu was among the inmates freed during a jail delivery several months ago by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi. However, the State Judiciary refuted Lloyd’s claim, stating that the suspect’s name was not among those recently granted pardon by Justice Chibuzor-Amadi.
Lloyd, in response to recent criminal activities in the Emuoha axis, accused Wosu of unleashing mayhem on the public after being granted pardon. The State Judiciary, represented by Chief Registrar David Ihua-Maduenh, countered Lloyd’s assertions, emphasizing that there was no jail delivery exercise in June 2023, and Wosu’s name was not on any list of inmates released by the Chief Judge. Ihua-Maduenh expressed concern about the false allegations against the Chief Judge and suggested that Lloyd could be held for contempt of court.
While acknowledging the fight against insecurity in Emuoha, the Judiciary stressed the importance of accurate information and cautioned against making baseless accusations against the judiciary.
