Barau, Umahi Others Step Down As Akpabio Set To Emerge Senate President

There are indications that the Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Senator Godswill Akpabio may emerge as a consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress following the withdrawal of three Senators who have also vowed to work towards his emergence.
Rising from a meeting hosted by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi the three Senators indicated their intention to step down for the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akpabio and adopted him as their consensus candidate.
According to Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State he took the decision to throw his weight behind Senator Akpabio following a meeting with the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who informed him that he was already committed and asked him to go and work with Senator Akpabio.
Following suit Senator Ali Ndume also said he had decided not only to step down for Senator Akpabio but will also be Akpabio’s Campaign Director General while Governor Umahi would be the Campaign Chairman.
Senator Barau Jubrin who was also adopted as the Deputy Senate President said he had also decided to step down his ambition and confirmed that he stood by the decision of the Senators.
As at the time of filing this report, many of the Senators were engaged in a marathon meeting at Frazer Suite in Abuja where we learnt many other Senators were also waiting to confirm the adoption of Senator Akpabio and Senator Barau to emerge as the Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.
