Bandits Shoot Gov’s Sister as Mother Escapes Death

Suspected bandits launched an attack on Thursday morning on a vehicle carrying Jummai Kefas, the mother of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area.

The governor’s mother was accompanied by her daughter, Atsi Kefas, who sustained a gunshot wound during the attack.

Confirming the incident on Friday, Dauda Agbu, Chairperson of Wukari Local Government Area, described it as “deeply troubling” but noted that no lives were lost. “Miss Atsi Kefas sustained a gunshot wound and was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari. Her condition was stabilised before she was airlifted to Abuja for further medical attention,” he stated.

Agbu also called for calm, assuring residents that security agencies are working to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

In a related development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Taraba, Usman Abdullahi, confirmed receiving a report of a robbery along the Wukari-Kente road. However, he noted that the initial report did not specify that the victims were relatives of the governor.

“Yes, we received a report of a robbery attack on the Wukari-Kente road in the early hours of yesterday, but I can’t confirm whether the governor’s mother and sister were among the victims. The incident is under investigation, and efforts are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Abdullahi said.

At the time of this report, the state government had not issued an official statement. However, Timothy Kataps, Secretary to the State Government, dismissed social media claims of an attack on the governor’s family as “fake news.”
