AYCC Condemns Continuous Killings of Innocent Civilians in Northern Nigeria

The Arewa Youth Consultative Council (AYCC) has condemned the continuous killings of civilians in Northern Nigeria.

This was noted in a press statement issued by the President of the forum Zaid Ayuba Alhaji on Friday.

He wrote:

Your Excellency, we write this to update you ( in case the security chiefs and other political appointees did not care to brief you). Northern Nigeria has been under seize less attacks, kidnapping and massacre of innocent individuals and communities on daily basis for over 9 years. The situation has today deteriorated into a “billion dollars industry” capable of killing everyone; including traditional rulers.

If we must be candid in expressing the truth; we must inform you that 90% of Northern population feels that the 8 years Government of President Muhammad Buhari and your 15 Months were slow or ineffective to ending insecurity in the North.

Our lives has been reduced to that of flies and cockroachese. We record daily kidnappings, assassination of individuals and wiping out communities; it has now metamorphosed into the calculated destruction of our traditional institutions; including the mutilation and desecrative killings of our traditional rulers.

Your Excellency sir, we condemned what is happening to our innocent population; especially the recent kidnapping and brutal killing of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District, Sokoto State. We demand for an immediate investigation and assurance of exclusive security of our region and Nigeria.

We continue to wonder how since 2016 to date; the Nigeria Army, Navy, Air Force, the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Security, Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission etc are yet to uncover and compeletely dislodge the sponsor, perpetrators and conspirators of the insecurity in the North.

Kidnappings has become a normal business, bandits freely bargain with relatives of their victims for days and weeks on phone and not a single trace could be attempted. If we cannot track calls made by kidnappers to know their location, while citizens continue to be abducted or killed without repercussions; then we’re finished.

Where is the Ministers of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy? What relevance do the NIN/SIM linkage has? Where is the exclusive security control of the Central Bank of Nigeria? What is the relevance of the Telecommunication Service Providers?

Your Excellency, this is a clear and loud message of the Northern people,  with the hope that you’ll understand the raging public anger, frustration and mass outrage. We’ve suffered untold cases of massacre and dilapidation of economy to the “lucrative kidnapping business”.

Your Excellency, thank you for your attention on this matter. We remain forever committed to the progress and prosperity of Nigeria and especially the Northern states.
