Akawor, Rivers PDP Chairman and Tinubu’s Nominee, Steps Down
Desmond Akawor, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, has officially stepped down from his position.
His resignation comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu appointed him as the Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission. In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umaru Damagun, dated November 22, 2023, Akawor attributed his decision to his recent federal appointment.
He expressed gratitude for the support during his tenure and highlighted his commitment to the ideals of the PDP. Akawor has passed on his responsibilities to the Deputy Party Chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka.
President Tinubu appointed Akawor as the Federal Commissioner for Rivers State in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission following the demise of the immediate past commissioner, Asondu Temple. Akawor, who has served in various capacities, including Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory, and CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, pledged to utilize his experience for the efficient allocation of resources across all levels of government in Nigeria.
