President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday Inaugurated a 3,000 Capacity Ultra Modern Custodial Centre at Janguza, Kano State.
This was in a statement by SC Musbahu Lawan K/Nassarawa Corrections Public Relations Officer, Kano Command.
According to the statement, President Buhari who gave his speech virtually said his administration embarked on the construction of the 3000-Capacity Ultra-Modern Custodial Centre in the six geopolitical zones of the country to mitigate the challenge of inmates’ congestion in some custodial centres and facilitate humane treatment of those in custody.
The outgoing President stressed that the new facility will reduce government expenditure on transportation of inmates to and from courts, as the facility has five court rooms for speedy access to justice.
In his remarks, the Minister of Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbeshola called on state governments to take charge of feeding inmates committed to federal custodial centres for state offences.
This he said is in line with the amended constitution of the Federal Republic.
On his part, Governor Ganduje of Kano State, who was represented by Secretary to the Kano State Government, Usman Alhaji, appreciated the President for his love and magnanimity to the State.
He expressed optimism that the magnificent Custodial Centre will improve the operations of the Correctional Service.
In a vote of thanks, the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, appreciated the Federal Government, the Government and people of Kano State for supporting the project and called on the public to accept the reformed inmates back to society as changed persons, stressing that any form of rejection will send them back to crime.
