The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has said it would request more seats for the 2023 Hajj excercise.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Yusuf Yaqubu Alrigasiyu, made the announcement in Kaduna.
He said the state would request 500 more Hajj seats despite the fare hike.
Alrigasiyu said the move was to meet up with the number of intending pilgrims that are expected to make payments in the next days.
He explained that the state had been allocated 5,987 seats by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), with the expectation of each intending pilgrim paying N2.919 million for a seat.
He added that intending pilgrims who pay their complete fare would be entitled to an $800 basic travel allowance.
While explaining why the hike in the 2023 Hajj fares, he noted that there was a 15 percent VAT increase by the Saudi Authorities, accommodation and increase in the Dollar to Naira exchange rate amongst others.
He added that despite the hike, Nigeria enjoys the lowest fare amongst countries like Ghana, Niger Republic, Pakistan amongst others.
