NPC Organizes Town Hall Meeting Ahead Population, Housing Census in Kano

The National Publicity Committee (NPC) under the National Population Census Commission held a Town Hall meeting on how to effectively conduct the upcoming 2023 National Census with relevant stakeholders.
The gathering which took place on Thursday had different dignitaries from opinion moulders, market women, community and religious leaders, students, civil society organizations, and the media.
Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, Director General of the NPC who represented the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information said the census is forthcoming and the importance of the exercise cannot be over-emphasized.
He added that “For over 17 years now, the census has not commenced in Nigeria, which led to an increment of 33% in the population calculated since 2006.
“The census is important for the security, economic, human capital development, and others. However, this census will be done digitally and it will be shared across all platforms to avoid illegal thoughts”.
Kwarra disclosed that “All stakeholders should step down the factual information gathered in this event to their followers without any forms of misinformation disorder.”
In an interview with Kano State Commissioner of Information, Mallam Muhammad Garba said the census is not a political affair but rather an exercise for the development of the nation.
“Kano state government will strengthen its commitment in all the corners and crannies of the state to create awareness on the importance of the census because the higher the population the more chances for a developing state,” he added.
During the questions and answers session, Aminu Tudunwada, President of People with Disabilities said that in the previous census, the PWDs recorded over 18 million out of the total number of the counted population.
Tudunwada called on the NPC should create a space to engage PWDs in all its activities.
On its part, the NPC pledged to conduct a credible and accurate census that would be acceptable to all Nigerians and the world over.
